Grasshoppers

There is a saying that everything is bigger in Texas.  Is this really true?  Well, I can tell you that the grasshoppers are for sure bigger in Texas. Interestingly enough, when I went out to my car this morning to go to work, there were two on the roof of my car staring at me.  When I went out for dinner tonight, I had to watch where I stepped so I did not step on them.  Crunch!  Eww gross!

Tonight I ventured out to the Midland Mall again.  I still think it's funny that there is nothing around here, but there is a Coach store in the mall!  In all fairness though, I did pay attention tonight and there is also an Abercrombie, Hollister, Victoria's Secret, etc.  I guess they do have more "name-brand" stores than what I initially thought.  I walked around for a bit and got my rings cleaned.  On the way out, a guy told me he liked my haircut.

I got a to-go order from the Olive Garden on Loop 250.  The service is okay there-the food good, as usual!  Watch out for the grasshoppers though!  There were plenty of them outside.  I wonder if it's the season for them or something!

I noticed that the drivers here seemed to be much more aggressive this evening.  Is it a full moon?  There is a reason that there is a yield sign- look for the cars that are exiting the ramps!  Patience, young grasshopper...

Going Home

The Midland/Odessa International Airport- really? International?  Yes, it is.  I asked-is there a flight to Mexico from here or something?  It took me approximately 5 minutes to print my boarding pass, give my bag to the TSA lady (who was reading a magazine), and go through security!  Yes, there is more than one gate-there are five!  Last week as I was checking in, I heard this announcement, "Will the person who left their belt at security return to security and get it?  It's brown-look down, if you are missing your belt, we have it here at security."

This was also the airport though who gave such an overwhelming welcome to a soldier who was returning home.  I have never in my life met so many nice people in this area of the country.  People who didn't even know this guy were standing there with flags and applauding him as he walked through a sea of flags!  It made my heart so happy knowing that people somewhere take the time to recognize these people who are serving our country.

Great flight on the small plane to DFW.  As I was waiting for my next flight, I had lunch at Cousins BBQ.  It was not bad-I had the ribs.  The sauce was only okay though.  I will be spending so much time at DFW in the next few weeks, that I figured I could try a different restaurant each time.

I think I might look like a frequent flyer too.  I had a lady ask me where the screens were to see her departing gate-funny how I knew right where they were.  Another lady asked me for directions.  I guess there is an advantage to traveling a lot-I don't usually get lost in the airports!

American Airlines is great!  So far, I have been so happy with the flights and the service.  The people are definitely a lot nicer than the Delta people. We landed in Detroit and an announcement was made on the PA that we were traveling with the team from Tyler,TX who made it to the Little League World Series.  I like how they take the time to point out things like that.  The whole airplane applauded for them too!

Midland, TX

So I am out here working in the middle of nowhere in Midland, TX.  Everyone keeps telling me to try Abuelos Mexican Food Embassy- yes, that is the real name!  I went there and ordered the chicken fajitas.  They were pretty good but I kinda still like Rosa's Cafe and Tortilla Factory...

Midland runs in a big grid so I haven't used my GPS since last week!  It is pretty easy to get around here too.  I drove back and forth to Odessa today, but I did have to use the GPS once to make sure that I was on the right interstate on the way back! I decided to take a detour and look for some shopping or food or Target or anything to do since there seems to be a lack of acitivities in this area!

If I want to visit some museums, there are several to choose from: George W Bush's Childhood Home, Presidential Museum, Museum of the Southwest, and some other museum that has all kinds of tractor blades in it.  I am not joking that this place is in the middle of nowhere!

My first blog!

I am so excited to start a blog! I thought I would start blogging about my life and things that occur in it.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I travel for work and I love to shop!  I run across the strangest things, people, and sights. I also get to visit a lot of cool places! I thought I would share them with you-or whoever is interested!  Stay tuned for some fun stuff!
